In 2000, the California State Legislature passed the “Access to Transfer Information for Community College Students Act” requiring community colleges to publicize IGETC to ensure that “all students are clearly and fully informed as to which community college courses and units are transferable.” Here’s the new law: The Education Code.
It is an educational plan for California community college students designed to facilitate transferring to a four-year public university. Completion of the IGETC will permit a student to transfer without the need to take additional lower-division courses, as well as demonstrate preparedness and ability to handle college level work.
